Any Questions?

WHAT IS AN EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST?

I get asked this question a lot! We often get confused for physiotherapists or personal trainers and although

there is some similarities between the fields, there are also many differences.

Physiotherapy typically focuses on supporting the person during the early or acute and sub acute phases of an injury. They are also skilled at diagnosing injuries through muscle testing, history taking and palpation. Physiotherapists will often use modalities to minimise tissue damage and support an expeditious recovery during the acute phase of an injury. They may also prescribe some low level exercises to restore range of motion and tissue integrity.

Exercise Physiologists do at times provide consultations for acute injuries but typically assist people restore their movement once the acute phase of injury has passed.

We take the time to design a thorough exercise rehabilitation program, that focuses not only on the injury site but also on what may be the deeper underlying cause of the injury. Our detailed approach ensures a restoration and even an improvement on the person’s pre-injury condition, and better likelihood of preventing further injury.

What about the difference between Exercise Physiology & Personal Training?

Perhaps the biggest difference between a Personal Trainer and an Accredited Exercise Physiologist is education. Accredited Exercise Physiologists have completed at least four years of university education, during which time they have gained an in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, pathology, nutrition and exercise programming that simply cannot be matched by a short-term personal training course.

By contrast some Personal Training courses span just 6 weeks! This does not mean we are dismissing personal training, in fact the personal training qualifications are improving all the time, and many experienced Personal Trainers have learnt a tremendous amount “on the job”.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON MY FIRST SESSION?

The initial assessment usually takes 1 hour. At this meeting an extensive medical history will be taken as well as baseline physical testing.

We'll discuss your goals and identify any muscle or movement imbalances through muscle testing, postural and/or gait assessment.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

We generally ask that you give us at least 12 hours notice if you need to cancel your session. This gives us adequate time to fill your spot.

If you cancel within 12hours of your allotted appointment time and we are unable to fill your spot you will be charged in full for the missed session.

We thank you for your understanding on this matter

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Yourself and a smile! Wear some comfortable clothing and shoes. We provide a towel and icy cold spring water.

If you have any x-rays, scans or reports relevant to your referral please bring them along.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL?

No referral is necessary to start training at Progressive Fitness Solutions however we do take referrals from GP's for GP management plants, DVA and Workcover NSW.
